Help Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic Reach Its Goals
In 2014, Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic granted the wishes of 395 children. At an average wish cost of $7,500, nearly $3 million went toward granting wishes for children in our local community. You can help when you take part in events like the Evening of Wishes, Make-A-Wish Kids Triathlon, or one of the Walks For Wishes throughout the region.
Another way you can help Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic is by donating a vehicle to Wheels For Wishes benefiting Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic. Both are great ways to help grant the wish of a local child in your community.
To benefit Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic, you can donate a car, truck, SUV, RV, boat or motorcycle to Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic's car donation charity, Wheels For Wishes. Wheels For Wishes benefiting Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic helps kids throughout the region and will help turn your unwanted vehicle into a wish for a local child. Wheels For Wishes takes care of all the work for you.
Wheels For Wishes accepts most makes and models, and vehicles are picked-up or towed away at absolutely no charge to you. Plus, it's easy to donate! Cars, trucks, boats, campers – just give us a call at [chapter_phone] or fill out our online donation form. Either way is easy and will help to grant a wish for a local child!
After many months of winter, digging out from historic snowfalls, and bundling up just to go get the mail, spring is a welcome sight. One of the great rites of spring is dusting off your golf clubs and taking in 18 holes on a beautiful afternoon. This April and May, you can do just that while helping Make-A-Wish at one of five different golf outings around the country. Each event is a fundraiser that helps a local Make-A-Wish chapter raise money to grant wishes for children with a critical illness.
Wish Upon A Par, April 27
Make-A-Wish North Texas presents the 5th annual Wish Upon A Par golf tournament at River Crest Country Club in Ft. Worth (1501 Western Ave.). Last year's event raised more than $145,000 – which was enough to fund more than 15 wishes. For more information about signing up for this year's event or becoming a sponsor, e-mail Lauren Grady at lgrady@ntx.wish.org.
This April, take the opportunity to learn about four kinds of cancer and help spread awareness to your friends and family. April is dedicated to head and neck cancer, esophageal cancer and testicular cancer. While these cancers rarely affect children, it is possible. Cancer awareness months are a great time to learn more about the symptoms of cancer, but also the preventable risk factors. While many risk factors are unavoidable, tobacco use is one of the main risk factors for head, neck and esophageal cancer and it's never too early to teach your kids about avoiding tobacco.
Make-A-Wish works to grant the wishes of children between the age of 2 ½ and 18 who are battling a critical illness, or who are suffering from a progressive, degenerative, or malignant condition that places the child’s life in jeopardy. Last year alone, more than 14,000 wishes were granted across the country! Make-A-Wish helps to bring hope, strength, and joy back into the lives of children, and this year during the 10th Annual World Down Syndrome Day, you may choose to play a part in helping to grant a wish for a local child through a car donation to Wheels For Wishes, benefiting Make-A-Wish.
Walking is a great way to get exercise and it’s the perfect way to spend a sunny Tampa day, especially if you’re walking for a good cause. Did you know that simply walking along Curtis Hixon Park could grant the wishes of Tampa-area children who are battling critical illnesses? When you participate in the Tampa Bay Walk for Wishes on April 11, you can help to make wishes come true for Central and Northern Florida kids!
March is not only Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, but also Kidney Cancer Awareness Month and Multiple Myeloma Awareness Month. Learn more about these diseases, what the signs and symptoms might be, and how you can help to spread awareness during the month of March. Awareness can help to save lives! You may even wish to donate a car to Wheels For Wishes, benefiting Make-A-Wish, to grant the wishes of children who may be battling these diseases.
Early April in Massachusetts is more than just Patriot's Day and the Boston Marathon. For Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island, it offers an opportunity to go to two great events that will help raise the necessary money to grant wishes for children with critical illnesses.
Whether you like an evening of watching celebrities dance or a morning out for a nice walk with friends, you can help Make-A-Wish North Texas in March, at either Waltzing for Wishes in Lubbock, or Walk For Wishes in Dallas. While wishes come in all shapes and sizes, the average cost of a wish is $8,000, which makes this event all so important to helping a child with a critical illness. Whether you are a sponsor or not, your support can provide a child in your community with hope for better times and the joy of experiencing the present.
Enjoy A Magical Evening While Helping To Grant Wishes
The 9th annual Waltzing for Wishes Gala on March 21 will feature local "celebrity dancers" who are matched with a professional dance partner. After weeks of dances lessons, each dancer will show off their talents and dazzle the audience with their grace and newfound skills.
Gallbladder cancer and bile duct cancer are rare, which is why it's so important to learn about the signs and symptoms and help spread awareness. Here at Wheels For Wishes, we are helping Make-A-Wish with our car donation program, but we also love to help spread awareness about different types of medical conditions. If you don't know much about gallbladder or bile duct cancer, February is a great time to learn more and share the knowledge so that more cases can be found and prevented.
It’s easy to forget about many of the things that our nation’s presidents have done for our country, and we often forget that our presidents are faced with different challenges and situations on a daily basis. For these reasons, it is with great honor that we celebrate President’s Day on the third Monday in February to honor George Washington’s birthday.
A lot of people see Valentine's Day as a day all about buying stuff for loved ones, but you can make it so much more than that when you get creative with your gifts or caring gestures. Chocolates or other not-so-good-for-you treats, flowers and stuffed animals are always fun to give and receive, but we’ve made a list of four things to try in case you’d like to make your gift even more special this year.
Imagine standing in line at your favorite coffee shop, and learning that another customer has already paid for your drink. This is sure to put a smile on your face, right? The great feeling that a nice gesture provides can often times be contagious, leaving a positive impact on your day which encourages you to perform a random act of kindness as well. This is what Random Acts Of Kindness Week (RAK Week) is all about, and you can start the trend just by reading this article and passing the kindness on!
The weekend of March 7 offers two terrific events for you to attend, both of which help raise money to benefit Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire: Twilight Tasting and This Old Bag: The Power of the Purse.

Twilight Tasting offers unlimited 4-ounce tastes, private reserves, limited and season craft beers, a limited selection of craft beer brands with limited or no California distribution, wines and spirits, food and dessert samples, live entertainment, a silent auction and an exciting raffle.Â
During Cancer Prevention Month, World Cancer Day is a day for raising worldwide awareness about preventing, detecting, and providing treatment for cancer. Many people around the world do not have access to information about cancer prevention or access to resources to prevent or treat cancer. That's why the Union for International Cancer Control established World Cancer Day to help spread awareness.
If you're watching the game this Sunday, your focus probably won't be on how environmentally friendly the party is. Whether you watch the Super Bowl for the game, the commercials, or just to hang out with friends, you can still have a great party while leaving a minimum impact on the environment.
New Year's is a great time to make plans to lead a healthier lifestyle, get organized and make other life changes. Keeping New Year's resolutions is something most of us struggle with, but it is much easier to stick with a goal when it is something when you know what small steps you need to take in order to achieve a big goal.
While everyone is making plans for how they are celebrating New Year's, consider this: We are creating more waste today than ever before. But little contributions in your life can help maintain the planet we all call home. Start living a greener lifestyle at your New Year’s Eve celebration this week! Living a greener lifestyle doesn’t mean you have to change everything in your life. A small change can literally make a world of difference.
At Wheels For Wishes, we take living a green lifestyle seriously. By taking your new, old or unwanted vehicles and recycling them, we not only help the planet, but also help the children of Make-A-Wish. A donation to Wheels For Wishes can help children in Austin, Spokane, Columbus and throughout the United States. The proceeds from every donated vehicle benefit Make-A-Wish and help wishes come true! Here are some tips for making your New Year’s Eve party green:
The month of November may be a time to start your holiday shopping and decide which gifts to buy for your loved ones. However, you might be more interested in giving the gift of life this holiday season. If you are in good health, you can give the gift of life by volunteering to be placed in a Registry coordinated by The National Marrow Donor Program. Patients can only be helped if there are donors available to help them, and the more donors, the better. Donors offer patients the gift of a longer and healthier life, and it’s something you will feel great about for many years to come.
